IMDb profile

Based on Carlo Collodi’s book Pinocchio: Tale of a Puppet, Walt Disney presents us with its second feature film Pinocchio. After the enormous success of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio was released on February 7, 1940 by RKO Radio Pictures.

The film is a story about a wooden puppet made by an old man named Geppetto. Geppetto names the puppet "Pinocchio" and, after he falls asleep one night, a blue fairy blesses Pinocchio with life. However, she tells Pinocchio that he can only become a real boy if he learns to resist the temptations of the world. She appoints Jiminy, a cricket, as his conscience, but he does not do his job and Pinocchio gets kidnapped by a puppet master called Stromboli and later is whisked away by a Coachman, who takes Pinocchio and a coachload of other boys to Pleasure Island. He is only turned into a real boy after he risks his life to save his father from the belly of a whale, who had left home to rescue Pinocchio himself.
