The Band Concert is a Walt Disney Silly Symphonies animated short film in which Mickey Mouse is the conductor of a band playing William Tell at the park. Despite trying to hold the music together while dealing with the antics of a fife playing Donald Duck, an annoying little bumble bee, and a raging typhoon, the band continuous playing.
Directed by Wilfred Jackson and released on February 23, 1935, The Band Concert is the first Micky Mouse short in Technicolor. However, it spelled the beginning of the end for Mickey as a solo star. The short included other Disney characters such as Donald Duck, Goofy, Clarabelle Cow, Horace Horsecollar, Pete Pig, and Paddy Pig.
Despite that, personality and character animation shine through Mickey’s amazing facial design and the expressions of a frustrated conductor. Thus, in 1994 it was voted third of the 50 Greatest Cartoons of all time by members of the animation field.
